ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE PAINTING COURSE
This two day Abstract Landscape painting course with artist Gareth Edwards explores the rock pools, cliffs, woods, shoreline and harbour of Lamorna Valley and Cove in West Cornwall. Made famous by the Lamorna Group of artists before and after the First World War; the valley is, by contrast, the most surprisingly diverse setting to forage for source material for abstract paintings. Artist tutor Gareth Edwards has worked in the valley for over a decade and will encourage students to see that the picturesque location offers a wealth of more abstract possibilities in the shoreline, quarry debris, trees and cliff faces of this enchanting corner of Cornish coastline.
The course tackles abstract language and strategies and skills to effect a personal, expressive and convincing approach to making stunning paintings that although inspired by aspects of lamorna's geography can exist as works in their own right independent of figurative references.
All drawing materials, supports and paint will be supplied by the art school.
Please meet at Newlyn School of Art at 9.50am for a 10am start each day. The course ends at 4pm each day.
