Printing on Fabric
This special two day course enables students to design and make their own silk scarves under the guidance of leading textile designer Clare Armitage.
Newlyn has an important chapter in its history relating to textile design. The influential silk designer and manufacturer Crysede was based in Newlyn throughout the 1920's. In 1923 George Walker went to Paris where he met artists Dufy and Zadkine who encouraged him to create his own designs. Walker returned to England and founded Crysede in Newlyn which achieved considerable success and the designs of that time are highly regarded to this day for their wonderful colour and highly creative modern design.
The two day Printing on Fabric course at Newlyn School of Art will involve hands on work creating two designs; taking the scarves through from the design stage to learning how to colour seperate, create and use silk screens and make repeat patterns right through to the finishing of the scarves ready to wear.
