|"Newlyn School of Art offers some of the best short courses in the UK; taught by some of the most exciting artists working in Cornwall".|
Newlyn School of Art was founded by local artist Henry Garfit over a period of three years of development and funding work. Henry's efforts were rewarded with an Arts Council grant towards some of the equipment set up costs for the school in the spring of 2011.
Henry moved to Cornwall in September 2003 after completing an M. A. in Art History from St Andrews University in Scotland and then studying Fine Art in London at Kensington and Chelsea College, the Slade and Camberwell College of Art.
He has exhibited widely throughout the UK with a number of solo and group exhibitions in which his paintings and prints have been shown.
In 2008 Henry set up the 15 new art studios at Trewidden Garden near Newlyn which has become an established community of respected artists enjoying visits from over a thousand people per year during the annual Open Studios and gaining an official visit from the Princess Royal in June of 2010.
As Director/ Founder Henry has full responsibility for the running of the school.
Newlyn School of Art is a privately run, not for profit enterprise and all surplus funds go towards expanding the facilities and provision of the school.
