Expressive Painting Course outdoor with Maggie O'Brien Cornwall

The aim of this inspiring course is to free up preconceptions of painting and drawing through play and experimentation towards creating large scale expressive works. Working largely from the dramatic coastal landscape around West Cornwall students will explore a variety of methods in painting and drawing, allowing a personal language to develop through reaction to the local landscape. The course covers the application of paint with brushes, palette knives, hands etc, whilst considering different approaches to mark making, colour, composition, mood, energy, surface, narrative and tonality. A variety of materials will be experimented with including acrylics, charcoal, pencil and other mixed media.

All drawing materials, supports and paint will be supplied by the art school.

“The blue sea of Lamorna bay sparkles in the mid-morning sun as we jump out of the van... the course is perfect for a novice unsteady with her brush... I've never absorbed a view so fully, reacting to every change in light and colour over the day”.
