DRAWING WITH COLOUR: FLORA

DRAWING WITH COLOUR: FLORA

Nothing is more abstract than reality’          Giorgio Morandi

This four-day course centres around painting and drawing from direct observation using carefully arranged natural forms and structures in coloured spaces. Searching for the relationships of colours and forms seen in flowers, objects, surfaces and spaces will be the main focus, where a range of practical and conceptual approaches will be explored. The course will aim to develop the observation and awareness of visual and dynamic interactions within individual still life setups.

We will question observation and perception through drawing and colour, and discover how three-dimensions can be translated onto a two-dimensional surface and composition. The interaction of colour and drawing systems will be used to express ideas during short studies and longer, more sustained responses.

You will use a variety of working methods and the teaching will include demonstrations, individual tuition and support from Mark. There will be many references made to a wide range of historical and contemporary artists’ work and their practice, for inspiration and direction.

Working from direct observation is both challenging and rewarding. The act of looking is exciting when you can feel a connection to the visual world, and your seeing and making are synchronised.

This course will run on the 13th - 16th July, with a further date for the autumn to be released soon.
