Amanda Seale

Seale’s practice is driven by an ongoing exploration of a personal artistic language through structure, material and process. Working between fine art, craft and design, she creates sculptural assembled collages spanning two and three-dimensional forms, combining tufting, weaving, stitch and constructed structures. Occupying an in-between space where textile, sculpture and spatial composition converge, the work resists fixed categorisation while proposing new relationships between material and form. Rooted in emotional intuition, memory and material exploration, the work develops through making itself, with process guiding the evolution of each piece. Threads of personal history run throughout the practice, informed by a family lineage of textile artists and makers that continues to shape her relationship with materials and an inherited culture of making. Seale’s work often begins with encounters in the landscape, where observation and experience provide an initial impetus rather than a subject for depiction. Subtle shifts in tone, light and atmosphere are absorbed through this sensory engagement and translated into material responses. Through intuitive engagement with materials, these starting points evolve into investigations of movement, tension, fluidity and transformation. By juxtaposing contrasting elements and reclaimed materials, she constructs layered structures that encourage the viewer to move around them, revealing shifting relationships between material, structure and space. Ultimately, the practice investigates how material and form can embody emotion and meaning, creating immersive encounters that reflect on process, physicality and transformation.
