George Rae

As a painter Rae work’s from life and towards death. The sole aim of his work is to paint what he sees as truthfully as he can, and it is true that everything is a portrait - whether that be the human head or the lulls of a storm.
Rae works with full intensity, looking as strongly as he can - folding his vision in on his subject again and again. Rae wishes to see as deeply as possible, in permanent pursuit of existence. He wants to paint the essence of a person as much as their presence. A likeness is transient and can only be established once their relationship with space is also observed.
Painting and drawing is an absurdist act, to capture life on a 2 dimensional service would seem to be an impossibility. Yet, oil paint is a living force, as animalistic as us. The dissatisfaction that comes from working is as rewarding as its satisfactions, for the act of painting surpasses its completion.
Ones work is an obsessive way of passing the time, it’s an entirely mortal act and must encourage the understanding that all things end. Through painting, no singular moment is taken for granted, for it allows one to observe the passing of time.
There is no meaning in his painting. He has nothing to say. To describe the indescribable is as abhorrent as the act of painting. It has no purpose other than to exist in the same space.
