TEMPERATE TO TROPICAL

TEMPERATE TO TROPICAL

Temperate to Tropical is a four-day course, that will explore the infinitely inspiring subject of foliage; from the literal and minutiae to the vast and fictional. We will visit two lush tropical garden locations, exploring ways of expressing sub-tropical foliage, and the more mundane foliage which we walk past each day to make two large paintings, from sketching and note-taking to the final gestures.

Working in acrylic and oil paint, we will discuss how a painting is structured, how to get the most out of simple materials through a variety of application techniques, and how, over a few days, two differing paintings can evolve simultaneously whilst breaking for talks, films, and techniques.

This course will see you working from small paper-based studies, building up to two large canvases from two locations. Canvas can be removed from the stretchers for anyone who wants to take the works home.
