|"Newlyn School of Art offers some of the best short courses in the UK; taught by some of the most exciting artists working in Cornwall".|
Faye Dobinson is one of the Tutor's on our weekly Life Drawing Evening Sessions every Wednesday from 7pm till 9pm and she teaches on our Experimental Figure course, she is one of the Leaders of our Defining Practice yearlong course.
Much of Faye Dobinsons’ work investigates the notion of place and the spaces we inhabit. This preoccupation has taken her to Mongolia and Tibet, where she exhibited, and other countries with topographies dramatically different to the London where Faye lived and worked. Ultimately she was drawn to a wilder space and settled in West Cornwall, while studying at Falmouth University.
The resulting works were densely layered with marks evolved from direct observation in the landscape and the lexicon of symbols to be found on maps. The built up surfaces hold a sense of accrued time, reflected in the working and re-working that reveal the varying strata of line, colour and volume of paint that have gone before.
